Eastern Basketball Alliance - EBA

02/09/08 - The North Jersey Lakers came into Alexandria this weekend hoping to steal a win and head back North. However, what they didn't realize was the Avengers are tied for first place in the EBA and are trying to raise the stakes in the league and win the championship.

The game started strategically as the Avengers were running a new offense, but as soon as the team got comfortable with the tempo, it became Avengers basketball as usual. Brian Carter and Justin "Lil Jay" Moore started the fire for the Avengers. Moore put everything behind him from the previous two games and exploded with an astounding 21 points. Justin rained three pointer after three pointer. The Lakers couldn't stop him even with five people on him. Crossovers and jumpers landed as if the rim was an ocean. "I just wanted to play more aggressive and set the tone for my team," Justin added.

Brian Carter had a team high of 25 points and 12 rebounds. Other top performers were Carlos Jones with 17 points, Terrence Nixon with 14 points, and Brain Polk with 13 points, Ryan Beal with 10 points and 6 rebounds and Daryl Owens, our defensive locksmith, with 11 points, 6 rebounds and a team high 5 steals.

"It was a team effort and all the players, from the starters to the last player off the bench, played a major role. They wanted us to slow the game down and play a more modern basketball game. But this game we controlled the tempo and made them play our style of play" said Coach Manuel.
