01/26/08 - DUNKS AND ALLEY-OOPS are what started the Avengers off Saturday night against the Camden Pride. The Avengers came out with much more intensity this game after losing a heartbreaker the week before to the New Jersey Starting 5ive. In the second play of the game, Big Man B.C. (Brian Carter) threw down a tomahawk dunk that brought the crowd to its feet. Many of the Avengers’ players came into this game with a different mindset, knowing that they couldn't lose two games in a row. Swing man Carlos Jones brought his "A" game, scoring many lay-ups and knocking down an open three pointer late in the third quarter. Los finished with 13 points, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 3 rebounds. “I'm glad I got my game going,” Carlos added. “I'm excited that coach didn't lose faith in me after my sub par play last game. I wanted to let people know that the old Carlos Jones is back and is ready to make a mark in this league.” Also reserves, Julius Stewart and Daryl Owens, made their defensive presence felt against a former NBA player T. Mott of Camden. Julius came in the game after the Avengers had no answer for Mott and changed the game completely. He finished with 8 rebounds, 1 block, and 3 assists. “This was the Dennis Rodman effort we needed from J. Stewart to win this game,” Coach Nic said. The Bruce Bowen of the team, D. Owens, brought his scoring along with his tenacious defense. He finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds - 5 of those were offensive. The high scorers for the Avengers were Brian Carter with 18 points, 10 rebounds; Steve Miles 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists; and Tyree Harris with 15 points. Terrence Nixon also added 12 points and 5 rebounds. “I think we are coming together as a unit. We still have a long way to go but the team will get better each game. We just have to trust one another and it will all fall in place,” added Coach Nic. |
