Eastern Basketball Alliance - EBA

01/19/08 - It was a hard fought game as the Avengers came right to the last four seconds of the game but couldn't quite pull it out.

Making History in Alexandria

The New Jersey Starting 5ive hit a long 3 pointer nearly two steps in front of the half court line to win the game in regulation.

The fans enjoyed the hard fought game by their home team, The Avengers. It was very exciting. After going down at the half 57-51, Jersey lead.

The Avengers got their focus for the second half coming up with major "D" and plenty of turnovers to tic the game up 77 late in the third. But Jersey again pulled away with a six point swing.

The Avengers had to make some adjustments as they were in foul trouble with their Big Man Brian Carter sitting down with four fouls early in the 3rd quarter. They then got a much needed spark from sharp shooters Erik Herring and Steve Miles. Mr. Herring really got his game flowing in the 2nd half with lay-up after lay-up and then a thunder dunk to spark the crowd. Mr. Miles did what he does best and stroked the three ball to put them up by 1 point

Then here comes the "General,'' Corin Turner to get the troops back to the defensive mindset that helped them win against Delaware, but never letting his offense sly away. Turner knocked down two major 3 pointers late in the 4th to put a scare to Jersey. With about a minute left the score, he was going back and fourth, coming down to the wire. Tyree Harris had the ball on the right wing as he attempted a contested jump shot that hit the backboard with 10 seconds left on the clock. Polk tips it up, misses and here comes Mr. Herring cleaning up from the inside with a much needed put back to put the home team up 103-101. The crowd was crazy as they felt the Avengers have this game won...

BUT wait...with four seconds left, the ball was at the half-court line, Jersey inbound the ball. It was closely guarded by the guys and then the unbelievable happens - a shot from half-court ends the game...104-103, Jersey - WOW what a game!

Tyree Harris and Brian Polk were the “go to” guys for the majority of the game, with Tyree dropping 17 points and Polk adding 21 with 7 rebounds. Big Man B.C. had 12 points and 7 rebounds and E. Herring added 17 points as well.

''These guys worked extremely hard for a team that's very good in the league. Jersey was one of those teams on the schedule early that we felt we needed to take care of. A game like that you can't be mad at the guys because at the end, they laid it all out for each other. We trust that we belong in this pro league and the Avengers are the NEW ‘Big Thing,’ not the NEXT." Coach Nic said.

We just came up a little short that's all. I hate losing games like this at the buzzer. Sometimes players want to lose by a lot than to lose at the buzzer," D. Owens #81 added.

"It's cool. We'll just take it out on Camden'' added Tyree Harris.
